Great Siddhars like Agasthyar,Tirumular and Ayurveda texts have upheld the importance of Nadi diagnosis. According to Tirumoolar, there are 72000 nadis in human body. The pulsations felt on the index finger, middle finger and ring finger correspond respectively with VATHA,PITHA,KAPHA factors. In vatha nadi, there is rapid heart rate, and rhythm is regular. The pulse movement resembles the movement snake. It is common ly seen in mitral stenosis. In pitha nadi the cardiac output is increased, there is moderate rise in percussion wave. Pulse movement resembles the movement of frog and is commonly seen in Aortic incompetence. In kapha nadi the cardiac output decreased with slow heart rate the pulse movements resembles the movement of swan and is commonly seen in Aortic stenosis. Based on pulse reading alone, many of the diseases can be properly diagnosed.

Marmam/Varmam is an area of practice in Siddha medicine that is concerned with marmam/varmam. The marmam/varmam are points of inter section of bone, muscle, tendons, nerves and blood vessels. The ancient siddhars believed that disease emerged when these points were adversely affected by an external force .A manipulative technique used in Siddha medicine to restore health at the marmam/varmam is known as ilakku murai. There are believed to be 108 marmam/varmam according to Siddha tradition.
The siddhars and traditional ayurveda did extensive research on plants and devised methods by which plants could be harnessed medicinally. They also described the poisonous nature of some plants and the antidotes for them and classified plants based on the way they affected the body. For simple ailments, Siddha and Ayurveda advices the initial use of herbs. If this does not prove effective, the judicious use of plants, minerals, metals and animal products is advised. In Ayurveda is preferred top most priority to herbal treatment, vaidyasala adapted both preferably for sake of the patient.
